Debating on this optional. I initially jumped on all the optionals offered when I first reserved - but I usually like to leave a bit more time for some independent exploration. How easy is it to get to La Fortuna?

So, I'm just wondering if there are other things to get into in the Arenal area. Wander La Fortuna, maybe. Or would the Boat Tour be our best bet?

Thanks guys and safe travels!

Here is my take on the boat tour. IF your tour goes to Tortuguero, the Cano Negro boat is almost an exact repeat of the boat tour you do in Tortuguero. IF you do not go to Tortuguero, the Cano Negro is worthwhile and enjoyable.

Another downside for Cano Negro is the travel time. I think it was about 2 hours, maybe more, each way.

If you stay in town, there are private tour companies there offering all sorts of activities for a day or half day. Don't remember specifics.

La Fortuna is close. Take taxi. If you book a private tour in La Fortuna I am sure they will pick you up at hotel. Saw a hiking provider picking up some folks at our hotel as we were departing for Cano Negro.

Front desk at hotel can help you book whatever you want. I saw the brochures there. Easy.

Thank you for this very useful information to help us decide on this option. We are doing the trip in February 2020 with Tortuguero, so will pass on the boat trip.

BTW we just returned from South Africa with Victoria Falls and Chobe Pk in Botswana. Wonderful trip. You should absolutely add the Chobe extension if at all possible.
