Hello All,
Is there any suggestions on transfers between the airports and the hotels in Paris and Rome? I see that you can pre-pay on Gate1's site, but I'm sure they are other alternatives out there. I've heard Uber and reserving a cab are more cost efficient alternatives.

Just Google airport transfers for each city. Lots of services will pop up, and you can reserve online. Gate 1 will always tell you they are not the low cost alternative. They cite the "dead head leg" to return to the airport - that would seem to be true for most other services as well, but that is what they use to justify pricing.

You can take a train from the airport into the city, metro line. Very easy just google where the station is at the airport. Cabs are very expensive like over $60 Euro one way.

Thanks for the advice. I did see the airport tram and rail option, but with the luggage that we will be toting there and back, would that be a concern on a public rail? Or is that just common place to see over there? Also, as far as the excursions in both cities, I did see some sites with their version of "city passes" that either offer an all inclusive list of a bunch of places, or you can order ala carte tickets. Has anyone had any experience with these? Again...thanks for any help.

the metro line into the airport is exactly that, easy transport into the city with your luggage. Hopefully you and your travel companion can handle your luggage. One reason to travel light. You want to make sure you get maps and study them as to where to get off, near your hotel and where exactly to pick up the train. You can buy daily railpasses at each station for as many days as you will be there and using the metro, like 3 days, etc. Do that . Yes and buy that Museum pass, it even allows admission to Versailles. You get that at your first place you go, so plan your days accordingly and be sure your first place, is on the pass list and you buy it there. for one two or three days. Lourve takes a good day. Do not do al la carte, unless you don't think you can make it to enough places. Rick Steves has great information on his website about Paris. I lived there for 6 years and I am very familiar. Also, Rick Steves has downloadable podcasts on Lourve, Versailles and others , do that. I listened to all of them while i was touring very very good. If you will be touring Ile de la Cite, which I'm sure you will be, get there EARLY!!! The lines to get into those sites are brutal. Especially Sainte Chapelle, and you want to see that.

The metro in Paris is excellent.

On Rome, the airport is a good hour from the city, but there is a train too, if you feel like you can handle another adventure do that. Rersearch the cost factors and compare with Gate 1 offer, sometimes its just as easy to take theirs unless they are rediculous. There is also a metro but I have not gone on that but I hear it's easy too. Viatour.com has lots of excursions and transfers too. Compare the Rome ones and see what you think.
