It just means theyre working on getting the single room. I have never seen anyone share before who doesn't know that person. I would def call and clear that up closer to the date.

I have noticed that before, and really did not understand the point either. You are paying more for a room that is meant for at least two people, so if it is available for two it should automatically be available for one. This is the kind of question that can be directed to one of the helpful G 1 agents.

As for the "guaranteed departures" Gate 1 does not do that. The reason I think is that the vast, vast majority of their tours depart as planned. I have not ever spoken to anyone that had a tour dropped they had booked. Gate 1 is the Wal-Mart of tour operators, and have a huge client base. They always seem to come up with enough clients to make a tour go. This is not true of some of the operators that have to resort to guaranteed departures. They will also send out a tour with a relatively small number of travelers. I have heard of several with less than 10. I have been on one that sent only 14 to northern Thailand after about 38 did the first leg of the tour. While not totally relavent, we were the ONLY couple that opted for the 10 day version of a Baltics tour - the rest did 9 days. We had the guide to ourselves in Tallinn, and she hosted us at the included dinner the first night.
