A shame to hear last week that Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (which includes Norwegian, Regent Seven Seas, and Oceania Cruises) made a decision to remove Istanbul and other Turkish ports from all of their 2016 cruises, for safety/security precautions, mainly due to the recent bombing incident there. However, I completely understand that NCLH had to make this difficult decision in the best interests of its customers.

Nevertheless, my wife and I are still going on Gate 1's "13 Day Affordable Turkey" tour next week, which I booked a few months ago. I never considered cancelling after the bombing, given that the U.S. State Department has not issued any travel alerts or warnings for Turkey. I will obviously exercise caution while there, but I will enjoy my time in that beautiful country!

Prozac, been watching the itinerary changes over on CruiseCritics and am sure more than a few unhappy cruisers who were looking forward to these ports. Hope you have a safe and uneventful but otherwise thoroughly terrific tour. This tour is one of our favorites for the overwhelming history associated with Turkey. Safe travels.

Istanbul and Turkey is such a wonderful trip, you'll be fine, just don't hang out with a bunch of people

Thank you both for the good wishes!

Sharon,
I do understand what you intended by your latter comment (about terrorists potentially targeting large tourist groups). But I think you didn't really mean that? Surely you're not suggesting that we ditch our fellow Gate 1 travelers! Unless they're a boring bunch! Just kidding, of course; we've always been with a great group of people on our 3 previous G1 tours. I think we're traveling to Turkey at a less popular time of year (February), so I'm guessing that our group may be relatively smaller anyway.

No I did not mean that at all. And Feb will be much less crowded, I'm sure. It's very easy to go off on your own in Istanbul, tho, there's a tram that takes you around. I did a cooking school alone on my final day, that was really great, excellent food and lessons!
