With all that is going on between Putin and Obama - I wonder if there will be complications getting visas or if our state dept will impose economic sanctions that affect travel. Any thoughts?

No problem, it would have been on the news by now, check the State Department website.

My wife and I are going on 09/05. let me know if you run into any problems with the visa. the US govt and Russia will play tit for tat for the foreseeable future. Western Europe will go to great lengths to keep this situation from going past the diplomatic stage. Tourism is a billion $ industry for both countries that effects the common person. Once its effects the regular people then you will hear noise from both counties. right now only Putin's and Obama's inner circle will be denied entry into each others countries. If Russia invades Eastern Ukraine, well that changes everything. The Crimea region is now part of Russia as it was before it was gifted to the Ukraine by  Nikita Khrushchev.
I'm using GENVISA. Good luck

Hi Laddie,

Please be advised that the US State Department has not issued any warning against travel to the Russian Federation. They have issued an alert and recommend that travelers register their travel plans online with the Consular section and STEP, https://step.state.gov/step/ which provides communication and updates, and while traveling to be aware of their surroundings (as always) and avoid demonstrations and large gatherings.

Best Regards,

Hi:
Have booked St.P to Moscow for Aug. 15 on MSNickolay Chernyshevsky and have many questions:
Hoping someone can help!
1) is the ships tap water safe to drink?
2) is bottled water supplied daily to the cabins fridge?
3) is a hair dryer supplied in each cabin?
4) how many electrical outlets are in the cabin?
5) is there a "charge card" set up to pay for excursions , drinks, etc?

And:
6) is there a Gate1 tour manager on board the ship?
7) does this manager book the optional excursions for Gate1 passengers?
8) are shore excursions arranged by the ship or Gate 1?
9) are whisper head sets provided for shore excursions?
10) are there sites that require long pants/skirts and head scarves?

Enough for now.
Appreciate responses.
