Please help! We applied for Visas with the online application system at the end of November. We kept trying to pay for the Visas and the website told us we had to wait until 4 days before we travelled. We waited and now the prompt is telling us we've waited too long. Can someone please help? I'm getting really worried. I've tried calling and e-mailing the SBI Pay system and no one responds.

Thank you.

I believe you can get them on arrival, there's a big discussion on just that on this page.

Pryor,

Call Gate 1 IMEDIATELY and discuss this situation with them. There is a good chance you cannot go, and may forfeit at least the land portion of your tour. It is possible that the airfare can be rescheduled for a fee, and applied to another India tour within 12 months.

As you found, the eVisa process cannot be done less than four days before your arrival. It is too late to get a normal visa through Cox and Kings, India's contract visa processor.

I had problems getting the credit card to go through when I did our eVisa in October, but after a day or so it finally went. I too called the India number on the web site at 2AM EST and they were no help in getting the credit card to go through. If you have three unsuccessful attempts at payment, you have to start completely over. It is not a good situation, and for this reason lots of folks refuse to use it.

The agent at the eVisa line in Delhi did not even look at the paper documentation we brought, as it was in his computer. Your application will not be in his computer.

Depending on advice from Gate 1, if you will also lose your airfare, you could chance flying to India and try to work it out with them there. They could make you fly home. Possibly they could have the tour guide meet you there and try to push it through. Take copies of your partially completed application, money, and 2 x 2 passport photos, etc.

They might not even let you on the international flight without a visa, but as I remember they did not check ours in Dulles.

The true visa on arrival at Delhi was dismantled in Jan 2015 as the new eVisa process was rolled out, so no true process to obtain at the airport seems to be in place.

Good luck with sorting this out, hoping for the best. Let us know what happens.

Hope all goes well. Now I am wondering if I should mail my passport instead of the visa. I leave for India 1/26.

So what is the latest on the eVisa? Recommend using it if only entering 1x or do most still prefer to mail in their paperwork? Leaving 23 Feb and need to decide quite soon which to do. Thanks!

I think my take, based on good experience at the New Delhi (short line when we went through) would be to try for the eVisa for single entry. Remember, you can only apply for eVisa 34 days MAXIMUM and 4 days MINIMUM before your date of ENTRY (NOT departure from USA - there is a one day difference.) I would try to do it exactly 34 days before arrival (35 days before departure.) If you cannot get the credit card payments to process in about three days of trying - GIVE UP and send the passport to Cox and Kings and have them do it. They will process and get it back to you in about a week. Do not wait any longer. The original poster of this topic may have lost his entire trip waiting for the last minute to process his visa!

I applied for the e-visa on Saturday and it was granted 24 hours later (much to my surprise). There were numerous times throughout the process during which I was sure I was hung up or going to get timed out. I am talking agonizing slowness. Having said that, though it took a long time I was able to get the application and payment through in 1 sitting.

I also called my cc company that day to let the, know the charge would be coming through and it would be legit.

However, if all else fails do as Randy suggests and go through Cox and Kings or Travisa. You don't want to be in that tough spot and out of time.

Ps I have a Mac and downloaded Google Chrome as my browser for this transaction.

Using Chrome might be a good idea. My daughter says it works better than Internet Explorer, but I just have not used Chrome much. If you got it done in one session that was good. Perhaps the application is starting to work better now, as it has been up for one year now.

Good call to call cc company to be sure they don't kick out the charge. I did not think of that, but the charges went through OK anyway.
