Great question. I've never known one to not go off so hoping ADMIN will respond.

Gate 1 does not put selected departures under "confirmed departure" status as does some other tour companies.  Fortunately, I don't think they have to as the vast majority of departures go.  I have never personally heard from anyone that had suffered a cancellation of a tour because of lack of participation.

No tour company will travel almost empty, but Gate 1 seems to accept pretty small groups.  Our latest tour to Baltics had only 24, while an earlier tour was full at 42.  A couple of years ago our Thailand tour was full for the first week, but only 14 of our group went north to the Chang Mai / Chang Rai area.

I have occasionally seen just a few far future (6 months or more) departures crossed out for whatever reason.  That far out, I expect they contacted affected clients and try to book them on an alternate date.  Of course, when political or natural disaster events occur, such as Arab Spring in Egypt or the quake in Nepal, departures were cancelled wholesale.  With India/Nepal tours, they changed the itinerary to include southern India, I think giving the clients choice to do that or just do the India part.

Do a trial booking online of the tour you are interested in.  Click the "friends and family" logo and it will tell you if there are 12 or less spaces left.  It there are 11 or fewer, you can be assured this will go I think.  .

We 'lucked' out on a week long tour with European Castle Tours (small group tour company based in Fussen Germany) when a large component of travelers cancelled on them and we ended up with three of us (myself, wife and one other) for the first part of the tour when a family from Australia joined us for the second part.  It was by far one of our favorite trips not only for the planned sites but also for the unplanned (like when the van broke down and we spent Easter Sunday at a restaurant waiting for a substitute bus to come from Innsbruck Austria just talking to our fellow travelers and enjoying each others company).

Ah, the fun of travels. You never know what may happen.

To quote Forrest Gump - "Life is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you are going to get."

I think this is particularly true of travel.  My wife always tells me to roll with the punches  - something she does better than I do.  The engineer in me does not let me do as well with plans that go south.  I don't, however,  complain to others on a tour or even to the guide, especially if there is nothing the guide can do.  I refuse to be the constant complainer that shows up on a tour from time to time.  Tour veterans know the one I am talking about!

Yes, I would assume if you are booked on a tour - it is going.  I have never seen one cancelled and my first trip to Egypt there were only 7 people.... and they still proceeded with tour.
