Hello everyone,

I am traveling with a group to turkey in February and we would like to try and do a Hamami upon our arrival in Istanbul.  Are there any good recommendations near the hotel that Gate 1 uses in Istanbul(Mosaic Hotel)?  We would rather walk to the Hamami from the hotel if possible.

I also noticed that there is some sort of orientation dinner with the group for the first day in Istanbul.  Would anyone happen to know about what time that dinner is?

Thanks!

We are going in March (20th), but I'd be interested in what you find out.  Thanks!

If you go to a traditional bath, I don't know of you are aware you are naked in a room full of Turkish men, my friend did it in Istanbul, I was not that brave.  She had to walk across the bath,  naked while men are getting their rubdowns.

Oh my.  My cousin (she & her husband are accompanying us on this trip) were wondering about that.  No towels or anything?  We may have to rethink this idea....

I did this tour with Gate 1 in 2012; we also stayed at the Mosaic in Istanbul. While I did not indulge in a hamami, two sisters that were on the tour did so frequently throughout the trip, and started right at the Mosaic. They seemed very happy with the experience, and the services provided by the hotel.

I just received my trip docs this past week and we are now staying at the Legacy Ottoman Hotel, which is like a 10 minute walk to the Hamami that we are probably going to visit.

I have done some extensive research and all Hamamis, with the exception of one, that I saw are segregated male and female.  You have the option to go full nude if you choose to do so but you can also wear bikins (females) or boxer/swimsuit shorts (males) if you prefer.  All of the "touristy" hamamis in the area offer sandals and some sort of cover up for the males and females.  I myself will be wearing some clothes!

Here is the website for the hamami that we will be going to (it has been featured in several movies including Taken 2!):

A traditional steam and scrub down will probably be around $40 per person, which isn't too bad.  It also has some good reviews on tripadvisor and yelp.

If you are doing the traditional then that's what it is, but there are many spa like choices through out the country, check your hotel as well.
