We will be doing a 13 day CR tour next Feb. I know the zip line tour there is a popular option, but at this point we have not signed up for it. Past experience with zip line tours has been very difficult climbs on difficult, slippery terrain. Not sure I want to repeat that.

Those who have done it - are the climbs to various zip towers difficult, steep, and exhausting?

Zip lining is practically the only thing I remembered from that trip apart from the hummingbird garden. The zip line climb is not a problem at all. The canopy tour did not strike me as worthwhile.

Zip lining lends itself to video taking. I gave the zip line guide my video camera and he took very good clips. People with GoPro should find it ideal.

I did this zip line, it could be done by a kid. Very easy. I did the old zipline as well, that was offered by G1 about 5 years earlier, and it was fantastic. Sky Trek Adventures, not for the faint hearted. No comparison between the 2.
Also the catamaran trip is great.

We just returned from the 13 day Classic with Tortuguero and Manuel Antonio. My husband (mid 60's) did the zip lining and did not have a difficult time climbing up to the platforms even though we had light rain at the time. It said it was the highlight of his trip and another traveler told us that it was the best of all the six zip lines that he has done. I am regretting that I did not get up enough nerve to do it now. We also had not signed up for the Hot Springs tour, but regret that. All those that did said it was wonderful and the meal was one of the best on the trip. If you like Catamaran cruises, I suggest taking that option. We left at 9:00 am and returned about 12:45. Included in the cruise was a lunch that was very good and a wristband that included 4 beers and 4 mixed drinks. We only had 40 people on the boat that has a capacity of 200, so it was pretty much unlimited drinks. Not for me--but anyone that wanted!! Sightseeing, snorkeling, slides and swimming included. We saw a lot of wildlife and our guide, Gilbert, was the best guide we have had on our 4 Gate 1 trips. More Gate 1 trips in the future. European River cruising in May. Can't wait!

We just booked the 13 day CR Tour from 7/3 to 7/15/2017! We added 3 Optional Tours to our package:
1. Hot Springs Tour with dinner
2. Salvatura Canopy Tour
3. Manuel Antonio Catamaran Cruise
We are jazzed at the prospect of taking this trip. This will be my 2nd trip through Gate1.

First, we really enjoyed this tour. You will have a great time.

I highly recommend adding the hanging bridges tour. You can add this to the zip line tour. If you do both you leave for the park 1 1/2 hours earlier (7:30 am) and do the bridges first. Then do zip line. Bridge tour is really interesting and is a nice hike on paved path. Guide points out many interesting things. Only costs $27 - a cheap optional.

You can skip Cano Negro tour. It is long drive and a complete repeat of the boat tour in Tortuguero. Only cool thing was crossing into Nicaragua.

One warning: Take some warm clothes and a light jacket. San Jose is over 4000 feet and gets chilly in the evenings. Monte Verde is over 5000 feet and gets chilly in the evenings, and as a cloud forest it basically rains or mists constantly. It is usually windy in San Jose which adds to the chill. I had no jacket and froze last month, even though highs may be 85 during day.

Interesting to see these opinions, as we make plans for our Feb 2020 trip. No one mentioned what can really be seen on the zip line--I would think you zip by so quickly that it's not a wildlife viewing opportunity. For that reason, we're opting for the bridge tour over the zip.
Thank you, "littlera," for the clothing advice.
