We are thinking about a trip for 2018. For those who have traveled to Africa, which would you recommend - Kenya or Tanzania - or both?

Also, which month would be optimal to see animals?

Done safari at both countries, if you go during migration than just do masai mara. do min. of 3 nights During migration cost is little higher but worth it

I did Tanzania last June 9 which is just approaching high season - July/August. It was perfect time of year, never overly hot, nor cold, not overly crowded and saw zillions of animals. The migration is never guaranteed but you may see it in mid to end of June. Google migration and it will show you a timeline. I highly recommend Tanzania. When I was researching, it was recommened not to try to do both Kenya and Tanzania (different schdule of animals/overkill I guess?). Also another recommendation to me was for the Serengetti and to do Tanzania. Gate1 does it well and accommodations are outstanding; you won't be disappointed. Also, they have now included Zanizibar at the end which I wanted to do, but it was not offered in the package. Have fun

Thanks to both of you for your feedback; it will help with my decision making. We feel this trip is better done sooner rather than later so I will eagerly look forward to Gate 1 posting 2018 dates.
